Ready to Return to International Travel?
If you are planning to return to international travel in the near future, it is time to check your passport to make sure it has not expired. While different countries have different rules, most require at least 6 months validity remaining and blank pages upon which to stamp your passport upon arrival and departure. Read on for helpful tips for renewing your passport?
What do I need to renew my passport?
You will need to do the following to renew your passport: 1–Fill out the correct form. 2–Include a check for the fees which are currently $110 for a passport book and $30 for a passport card. 3–Include a photo following the guidelines. 4–Include proof of citizenship.
How long will it take to get my passport?
Currently, it is taking up to twelve weeks to get a passport back, due to the extremely high demand. You may pay an extra $60 on top of other fees to expedite processing which is currently 4-6 weeks instead of 10-12 weeks for standard service.
Can I renew my passport in person?
Unless you have a life or death emergency, it is very hard to get an in-person appointment to renew a passport.
Can I save money by taking my own photo?
You may take your own photo following the guidelines outlined on the State Department website. If you prefer to have someone else take the photo, you may go to your local CVS or most local print shops.
Will I get my expired passport back?
Yes! You will receive your expired passport in a separate mailing from your new passport book, likely after your new passport book arrives.
