Today was a windy, blustery day. When I went out to have breakfast on my balcony I thought I might blow down the street and into the sea. This was going to be a perfect day to hunker down and get a lot of work done.

I love my apartment in Polignano a Mare. It has a nice, comfy sofa which I thought would be the perfect place to wrap myself in a blanket and get some work done. It turned out to be the perfect place to curl up but let’s just say my productivity was not at its best.

Wine Shopping

Later that afternoon I’d seen enough of my apartment and headed out to pick up a bottle of wine and see if anyone else was out there being tossed around by the gale-force winds. I headed in the direction of the wine store I’d found with some googling.

When I arrived, there was an older man inside the little shop so I waited just outside. As I was waiting for my turn, I noticed the man had brought an empty plastic container, similar to a gallon milk jug with him. The woman working in the store was filling it with red wine. As she handed him the container filled with local wine, he gave her 7 euros.

Oh. My. Gosh. This is the Magic Wine Store of my dreams!  Surely, I thought, that was the rate for the locals. When I asked for a bottle of Negroamaro she handed it to me and asked for four euros.

I may never leave Polignano a Mare. I can get a little apartment just on the edge of town near the Magic Wine Store. I’ll never need to leave the city! I’ll make friends with the little old man and take his jug and mine to the Magic Wine Store when we need a refill. Life will be sweet.

Update on the Cheeky Bar

On the ridiculously windy day, the Cheeky pink and blue bar on the corner is still the center of the universe for the people of Polignano a Mare. As I passed by, there were people inside and outside, eating gelato and chugging espresso. I was still very intrigued but not enough to compel me to join the activity. Maybe they sprinkle some addictive drug dust on the gelatos and espressos?

Ciao for now!
